I'm glad I stumbled on this site. I was having a hard time keeping up with the latest on UbuntuForums.org and the mailing lists generate a lot of traffic for my inbox.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone put phone capabilities into the Creative Zii, but I doubt if it would make it to North America. A product like the Zii will probably end up in Europe or Asia and Engadget seems to think the same thing.

I'm looking for pretty much the same reasons, but with one additional application. I want to use it as a telephone doing WiiFi to a Novatel MiFi 2200 to Sprint's or Verizon's 3G (evdo) network to google's voice and/or gizmo5 to the Public Switched Telephone Network.

Reasons:
* $60/mo
* tethering for my notebook
* ability to upgrade my pocket computer without getting a new connection plan
* Steve Jobs wouldn't decide what programs I could run on my computer.
* etc.

Thanks for the comment! It's very exciting news and could turn into a very nice product if Google decides to take on Skype directly.

<a href="#comment-29" rel="nofollow">@Dan </a>
Let me know how it works for you. It’s not exactly open source software, but it’s free and I find it useful so that’s why I blogged about it. I mostly use the mobile web page for my daily readings. I’m also excited about the potential that YouVersion Live has. It would be nice to study and/or watch live stream at times other than normal worship.
